The cross is inlaid into the walkway the condemned used to get to the gas chamber. The guide said they were going to take it out but the inmate council said they wanted it left there, so the inmate knew he had the distance from the cross to the chamber to decide where he was gonna go, because he wasn’t going back up the hill to the cell block.
